Blogging Worthy of the Gospel

Now that the 2008 Band of Bloggers fellowship is gone, folks have been wondering what if anything will come of the Band of Bloggers and the vision of a gospel-driven community in the evangelical blogosphere. That is something that has been on my mind as well, and over the next several weeks, I hope to share some of the things that I think has the potential of being a very fruitful endeavor.

The first project the Band of Bloggers is undertaking is to compile a list of bloggers and their blogs who are committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In the spirit of the exhortation to walk in “a manner worthy of the gospel to which you have been called,” the Band of Bloggers directory will be a collective response of Christians who desire to “blog worthy of the gospel.” The goal is to aggregate the content of dozens of blogs that are flavored by, and do not bury, the gospel (to use the words of Abraham Piper). Simply, we want to highlight and bring attention to the gospel of Jesus Christ and recognize those who are desiring to communicate it, treasure it, demonstrate it in their lives, and share it with others who do not know Jesus.

So with that said, if you are a blogger and would like to be a part of a gospel-centered community that is forwardly confessional and fraternally accountable, then let me encourage you to consider going over to the Band of Bloggers and submit your name (first and last name) and your blog address in the comments. Or, you can do so also by emailing us at

May there be many who, entrusted with the gospel, desire to blog worthy of it.

Wonderful! Last time I looked there were 79 people interested and a few expressed concerns about accountability issues. It has been my experience that Timmy always errs on the side of caution when someone expresses a concern regarding the content of one of his posts. He has shown a humble, Christ centered integrity each and everytime (there have only been a few) I have expressed a concern and has even removed an item that might be distracting or cause someone to stumble. He has displayed, over-and-over again, spiritual discernment beyond his age and although this is a challenge, and it will not be without flaws and imperfections, it is definitly the focus and commitment needed to band together those who desire to be ambassador of Christ on the internet; to ensure (by His grace) that they not bring dishonor or shame to His name; and who desire to be sharpened and, yes, held accountable.

I trust that Timmy will have in place clear-cut guidelines and a “covental” type statement for each member to agree to, before he officially launches anything.

Keeping all of you and this new endeavor in my prayers,
