Twitter Talk and Community Groups
One of the things I really enjoy about Twitter is the rather well-defined network that is developed over a period of time through the updates of like-minded believers who share many of the same passions in life. Yesterday afternoon was a great case in point.
At Grace, we are currently working through the process of doing to community groups on Sunday nights (beginning in March). There are numerous decisions needing to be made, not the least of which is how the community groups will be formed and administered. When I asked the question to those on Twitter what “filters” they use in designing the groups and fostering participation, things really opened up. In fact, a dozen folks jumped into the multi-directional discussion bringing lots of insights, experience, and practical helps on various aspects of community groups.
Anyone interested in seeing the discussion and how Twitter (at least for me) provides me access to sharp minds focusing on gospel and church related issues, check this out. At the bottom of this page [page 8] is the beginning of the discussion which proceeds up to page 1 (if you click on “show conversation” below an update, it will show the discussion with just that person). Think of it like a conference Q&A without the conference charge. Nearly 100 updates in less than two hours gave me a wealth of ideas and good counsel that was instant and targeted to where I’m living today.
Now I’m going back, reviewing the responses, and expressing thanks to God as well as those who have been kind enough to help me have a better grasp of community groups 140 characters at a time.
For those interested, here’s my Twitter feed as well as Grace Baptist’s.
