Jesus, I Come

shelly-moore-bandUpon recommendation of a good friend, I have been listening to the Shelly Moore Band based out of Raleigh, NC (Facebook | MySpace | iTunes).  Although I have only been listening to their music for a short period of time, I have really been enjoying it.  Below are the lyrics to an old hymn (1887) by William T. Sleeper that has really stuck in me. Be sure to check out their recent Hymns project. Nick Kennicott reviewed their prior album on which “Jesus, I Come” is recorded called Hope and Decay.

Out of my boundless sorrow and night
Jesus I come, Jesus I come
Into thy freedom, gladness, and light
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of my sickness and into thy health
Out of my wanting and into thy wealth
Out of myself and into Thyself
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of my shameful failure and loss
Jesus I come, Jesus I come
Into the glorious gain of that cross
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of sorrows and into thy balm
Out of my storms and into thy calm
Out of distress and into jubilant psalm
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of unrest and arrogant pride
Jesus I come, Jesus I come
Into thy blessed will to abide
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of myself to dwell in Thy love
Out of despair and to raptures above
Upward forever on wings like a dove
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of the fear and dread of the tomb
Jesus I come, Jesus I come
Into the joy and light of Thy home
Jesus I come to Thee

Out of the depths and ruin untold
To enter the peace of thy sheltering fold
Ever thy glorious gaze to behold
Jesus I come to Thee
Jesus I come to Thee
Jesus I come to Thee
