Liberalism Cannot Handle the Reality of Atonement and the Certainty of Death

Trevin Wax, who blogs with me at Said at Southern, has been posting some excellent stuff. I encourage you to check out his blog and subscribe to his feed. Today, JT picks up on Trevin’s post which is an ER clip of a dying man needing real answers, only to find himself with a liberal chaplain who cannot point to God but to oneself. This is a great illustration of why liberalism fails in real life. Liberalism lives in theory alone, but when confronted with the certainty death, it can offer no hope, no assurance, no certainty of life everlasting through the substitutionary death and victorious resurrection of Christ. Here’s the clip:

Let this clip be a reminder that we must, as Richard Baxter said, preach as a dying man to dying men!

Thanks for the compliment, Timmy, and the link.

The clip makes me want to shout the gospel from the rooftops and help those who are like this man and want to find forgiveness.

  2. Samuel A. Herndon III Says:

With a man in this frame of mind, he needs someone who will speak in a powerful raised voice. I would have said, “Shut up and do not interupt me as I tell you how to be forgiven. ” I would then have explained how Jesus died for his sins, and conqured death by raising from the dead on the Third day. I would have explained how to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.and ask Forgiveness through the Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.. I would then have led him through the Sinners Prayer, and taught him how to confess his sins to God through Jesus Christ, and ask forgiveness though the Blood of Jesus. I would then have told him, “if you truely meant what you said and prayed, You can rest assured you are FORGIVEN, and that God is reaching out to hug you and invite you into Heaven.

Ditto .. minus the hug part.

Wow…what a powerful clip. A dead on accurate presentation of what men truly need and why liberal Christianity is a joke in giving it to them.

People need the truth. Who will give it to them?

    This man needs the Gospel.

The question I ask myself is am I giving the truth that people need? We all need to ask that.

We cannot cheapen the Gospel. We cannot give canned presentations and expect that to answer their questions. We cannot lead them through meaningless nonsense like the “sinners prayer”.
They need to hear the Gospel. They need to be told to cry out to God for mercy and forgiveness with a repentant heart…they don’t need to be told “repeat after me”.

What a great reminder of the need for faithful preaching of the Gospel.

    Thanks Timmy (and Trevin).

  6. John Gregory Says:

Here was a deer panting after water, only to be denied by one perhaps ashamed of the Gospel. The real tragedy of liberalism is that in exhalting the idols of inclusion and non-offense, it instead excludes and insults Him in whom alone peace can be found.
