You might consider downloading some real GIS software and using digital parcel maps from your local city or county. You can color code the parcels and add the additional data you want to track to the attributes tables.

AccuGlobe (Free)
http://www.accuglobe.net/

National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) 2007 CD (Free)
https://www.bts.gov/pdc/user/products/src/products.xml?p=2559&c=-1

Your state's geodata warehouse probably offers free downloads of GIS data files with locations of churches, schools, local roads, etc.

God bless...

Timmy,

I do not know if you can import data directly into Google Maps, but I know you can in Google Earth. I did it with all the churches in our Association. Check out my post: <a href="http://http://www.rebuildlakeshore.com/2007/07/27/gcba-in-google-earth/" rel="nofollow">GCBA in Google Earth.</a>

Brenda,

I entered the data one by one (unfortunately), but at least I was able to copy and paste most of the info. The 105 entries took me a total of about four hours to complete, and I plan on adding more content (such as names of children, ethnicity, and occupation) in the future.

But that is not to say that there isn't a way to upload the data. I am still really new to this stuff, and I would guess my knowledge is less than 10% (!) of what is out there regarding Google Maps.
