Mark,

I was typing as George was speaking. Unfortunately, the audio is not available for the Q&A, so there is no way to verify the nuance.

I agree that the attitude and the approach from Drs. George, Dockery, and Page was refreshing. We need men like these before our Convention.

Timmy,
I thought I remembered Dr. George saying tracing our roots back to Anabaptist tradition COULD lead to sectarianism. And that there are dangerous things that COULD flow from drawing heavily on the English Separatist tradition. I know I am parsing words here, but there seems to be a difference between saying the Anabaptist tradition leads to sectarianism, and saying there is a danger that it can lead to sectarianism.

It was a great conference. Thanks for blogging it. Hopefully many people will read your outlines, and listen to the audio. I thought it intersting how humble the older leaders were... like Drs. Dockery, George, and Page. THere is a lot I want to learn from their humble demeanor and approach.

johnMark,

I have corrected the link for Jenkins' book. Thanks for making me aware of it! I was in a bit of a hurry.

He did not address the extent of being ecumenical in regards to Roman Catholicism, and I think that is a good question. I think his main point was to say that the idea of being ecumenical was birthed on the mission field for the progress of the gospel among the heathen (i.e. William Carey). I think the line is drawn on the gospel, and in particular, justification by faith. If that is the case, then I don't see how evangelicals or Baptists could bring the idea of being "ecumenical" when there are such serious and fundamental differences as how one is made right with God.

Elizabeth,

Thanks for getting the word out on the audio. I will try to provide that info on a post. Have a blessed weekend!

Timmy,

Thanks I really hope I get to listen to this later. Have you read Jenkins book? Your link to it doesn't seem to work.

Did Dr. George touch anymore on how ecumenical we should strive to be? You know, like working and accepting Roman Catholics?

:)
